Coca Cola – ‘Mexican’ Coke Review
I am about the violate the sacred Coke-free nature of our blog. But this is for a good reason, I promise. For serious Coke drinkers, this is the Holy Grail of colas. The Mexican Coke. Why is it called that? Well, son, sit down and I’ll tell you. This Coke is manufactured and bottled in Mexico, where high sugar tariffs do not exist. So they make this Coke with REAL sugar. That’s it? Yeah. Now go away kid, you bother me.
I have always been a Coke drinker, since my first can. Pepsi is too sweet, and Coke has that nice acidic bite to it, the one that can dissolve nails. As a precocious youth, I cared less about High Fructose Corn Syrup, so drank whatever soda you put in front of me, be it caffeinated or not. I’m much wiser now, as you can see, and limit my intake of this vile sweet substance. But I did not want to completely give up my first soda love. I had had them before, but never paid attention to the little sticker the government makes Mexico put on this imported beverage, with the ingredients and other information. Second ingredient, not HFCS. It says sugar, baby.
Heche en Mexico is something that may give pause to the average consumer, fearful of inferior products produced south-of-the-border. However those concerns may be justified, it is not the case with this. Every one I have drank has tasted perfect, the right blend of sugar and that distinct Coke flavor. Every so often I indulge and purchase one, usually at my favorite taqueria. So if you have never had one, next time you happen to be in that small taco shop you secretly adore, and you see this Coke languishing in a tiny fridge behind the counter next to cans of Jumex, De Valle and Jarritos bottles, ask for one, and enjoy.
You can also find them at Mexican mercantile stores, and even Wal-Mart has them.
Score: N/A (although I would give it a 5)
